1.  Why didn’t my doctor check my thyroglobulin level before removing my thyroid?

Thyroglobulin levels are not routinely measured before cancer treatment because the protein is produced by normal thyroid tissue as well as by many thyroid cancers and can be elevated with many thyroid conditions. An elevation does not mean that you have cancer, and it is not necessarily closely related to the amount of cancer present.
